A Walk With Death
I struggled for a while to feel like I could “do art” because I don’t have a formal education in art. This piece was a process in incorporating things that are beautiful to me, such as this story from The Sandman (Neil Gaiman), the fibres I had in my stash, and layering it all overtop of what might be considered more “traditional” pieces of art.
This treatise on death I created was also a real reflection of how far I’ve come in wading through my own grief. And it has also generated for me a feeling of peace around putting down my old ideas of what “art” needed to be, and to make it my own.
This mixed media piece is created using a snippet of one of my favourite issues of The Sandman, pieces collected from magazines, and acrylic paint. I also incorporated more familiar mediums to me, like fibre and wood.
