Frida’s Courtyard

I created this sketch with watercolour while visiting the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City. Sitting there in the courtyard, where Frida would have sat many times, and spending time capturing the scene in front of me, was a much deeper way to capture a memory than just a photograph.

Not only did I capture an image of the physical space, but I can still hear the fountain trickling and the murmur of the crowd wandering through the courtyard, and the cool stone of the bench I was sitting on.
